Just Go Bananas (Soft Serve Ice Cream)

I’m a skeptic sometimes — well … a lot of times.

I also read a lot of blogs and a few weeks ago I saw this recipe on several websites. It claimed that you could blend frozen raw bananas into soft serve ice cream. I was immediately skeptical. I really thought the texture would be strange and I just didn’t believe it would work.

Good news! I was wrong and it does work! We made a small batch (bananas only) last week to see what it was like and tonight we added a few things and tried it again. Both times, the result was amazingly like soft serve ice cream and if you like bananas, it’s great! There are many recipes online, but I will share what we did tonight.

So here’s the ingredients — there are only three in our version.

Bananas, Vanilla Bean and Honey

Bananas, Vanilla Bean and Honey

Here’s the recipe we used:

Three Frozen Bananas

2 Tablespoons of Honey

1/2 Vanilla Bean

Directions: Add frozen bananas to food processor, scrape vanilla from the inside of 1/2 vanilla bean and add two tablespoons of honey. Blend until the consistency of soft serve ice cream. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides as you blend.

Add ice cream toppings and enjoy!

In our second batch, we added honey. We think the honey made it better because it gets firm when it is mixed with the cold bananas.
